Hiring and retaining the right people is one of the secrets to our success. A common practice with many firms is to be a little 'too' cooperative with the client's program managers. Do they really need that extra system, or could better use be made of existing platforms? Do they really need more staff, or do they need a different skill mix? Which new technology is best for migration - the high risk one that will probably require extra staff, time and money, or the low risk solution that will provide a more stable and reliable answer? In all these cases there are two possible answers; one answer which increases staffing (and revenue), but isn't really necessary for the mission, and another answer which increases the chance of success and optimizes reuse of existing assets. In essence, one approach is to simply increase contractor revenue and the other is designed to smartly improve core business capability. TCDI always recommends the smart approach, since, to be totally honest, we believe that's what we're being paid for.
