American Heart Assoc. October 2006: American Heart Association
TCDI is a supporter of the American Heart Association and their reserach efforts. The American Heart Association's financial contribution to cardiovascular research is very impressive for a publicly funded health organization. Nevertheless, it is far less than the sum distributed by the federal government through its National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Although the federal government provides more money, the American Heart Association has carved an important niche in supporting the development of beginning investigators and offering innovative funding mechanisms to stimulate research in promising science areas. In October 2006, TCDI sponsored the Start! Tanglewood Heart and Stroke Walk. To learn more, visit their website at www.americanheart.org
Volunteer Center August 2006: Fill the Bus
In August 2006, TCDI was matched by the Volunteer Center of Greensboro with Sedgefield Elementary School, a local Guilford County elementary school with 78.40% of students on a free or reduced lunch program. The school Principal gave TCDI a wish list from teachers to aid in their classroom preparation and help those teachers with out-of-pocket expenses which will ultimately ensure that each student has the school supplies he/she needs to have a successful school year.
