Special Forum on Ohio’s Cybersecurity Legislation (Ohio Senate Bill 220)

On Thursday, January 10, from 9:00 a.m – 12:30 p.m., the Technology Committee of the Association of Corporate Counsel, Central Ohio Chapter, will host a panel on the recent passing of Ohio Senate Bill 220.  Timothy M. Opsitnick, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, TCDI, will participate on the panel.

Ohio Senate Bill 220, also known as the Data Protection Act, was signed into law on August 3, 2018 and became effective on November 2, 2018.  This legislation is opening discussions throughout the US and is changing the way Ohio companies approach cybersecurity.  Rather than creating a minimum cybersecurity standard, this legislation is voluntary and rewards companies that are compliant with specified cybersecurity frameworks by providing an affirmative defense against tort claims in the event of a data breach.
