JURINNOV services integral to landmark predictive coding litigation Global Aerospace Inc. et al., v. Landow Aviation, L.P. dba Dulles Jet Center, et al.
(January 22) In an important legal technology milestone, the 20th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia has approved the results of an eDiscovery production where predictive coding was both ordered and used. By using predictive coding to aid and facilitate the document review, the defendants were able to save approximately 20,000 man hours and $1.5 million dollars.
The document collection initially consisted of 8 Terabytes of data. JURINNOV performed the onsite data preservation as well as the initial culling and processing which narrowed the data set from 8 Terabytes to approximately 250 Gigabytes, or 1.3 million documents. The processed data was then provided to OrcaTec and was reduced by another 83% by using predictive coding technology. As a result, approximately 173,000 of the 1.3 million documents were identified as responsive and subsequently produced in discovery and approved by the court.
This landmark predictive coding litigation has garnered much attention in the news. For more information, please read these recent articles by Law Tech News and The Wall Street Journal. To read the press release from Orcatec, please click here.

JURINNOV Announces the Integration of Attenex® Document Mapper™ into its Ringtail® Legal On-Demand™ Service Offering
The Legal Technology Company Expands Offerings with Introduction of Attenex Tools and Ringtail® Mines™ Electronic Discovery Software
CLEVELAND, OHIO – February 08, 2010 – JURINNOV Ltd. (www.JURINNOV.com), a legal technology consulting company celebrating its tenth year of providing electronic discovery services, today announced the expansion of its discovery analytics offering to include Attenex® and Ringtail® Mines™ software. Fully integrated with the Ringtail Legal On-Demand document management and review platform, Attenex and Mines use concept analytics to substantially improve the workflow and presentation of documents for legal review. With these tools, individual reviewers are assigned related documents organized by concept in a visual interface which facilitates more document decisions in less time. As a result, legal review costs, the most expensive component of electronic discovery, decrease substantially while enhancing accuracy and defensibility. Mines can analyze document collections, large or small, and extract concepts from the data to identify similar document sets. Then, Attenex Document Mapper further refines and organizes the documents into concept “clusters” which are presented in a visual interface for legal review. Furthermore, the integration of these tools within Ringtail avoids the need to move data between multiple applications during document review. With these tools, a five to ten-fold increase in reviewer productivity is anticipated when compared to traditional linear review methods. “The integration of Ringtail and Attenex offers JURINNOV a phenomenal opportunity to provide our clients with a cutting edge tool to improve the performance, defensibility and cost-effectiveness of their litigation management and document review processes,” stated Timothy M. Opsitnick, Esq., Senior Partner and General Counsel of JURINNOV. “In addition, JURINNOV has also installed Attenex Workbench™, which will further enhance our ability to process electronic information, thereby providing our clients additional capacity and savings.” ATTENEX, ATTENEX DOCUMENT MAPPER, ATTENEX WORKBENCH, MINES, RINGTAIL, and RINGTAIL LEGAL ON DEMAND are trademarks of FTI Consulting, Inc. and are used with permission.

JURINNOV Launches Electronic Discovery Podcast Library “ESIBytes”
The Legal Technology Consulting Company Contributes to Advancing Electronic Discovery Education
CLEVELAND, OHIO – April 01, 2009 – JURINNOV is pleased to announce the launch of a free e-discovery audio podcast library (www.ESIBytes.com). The website highlights tips and current trends from national and regional experts on electronic discovery and records management topics. ESIBytes™ contributes to the electronic discovery knowledge base by making national thought leaders in the field available to anyone, at any time. Previously, expensive travel and other fees were required to hear national panelists such as judges or lawyers speak on electronic discovery topics. Now, this type of information is only a mouse click away. The audio files can be downloaded to a computer, IPOD®, I-Phone® and other forms of PDA’s for free. Since any show in the podcast library is available on-demand, ESIbytes™ provides instantaneous access to pertinent information to those who need it most. In addition to mainstream topics, ESIBytes™ also facilitates education on more esoteric topics seldom covered at live seminars. Many diverse experts have already contributed their material to the site, and include:
- Judge Shira Scheindlin and Am Law 100 E-Discovery lawyer/national blogger Ralph Losey, Esq. on teaching electronic discovery in law schools.
- Judge John M. Facciola and Tom French Esq. on why solo practitioners and small law firms need to learn about electronic discovery.
- Electronic discovery pioneer Jonathan Redgrave on the role of Special Masters in electronic discovery cases.
- Former Magistrate Judge Ron Hedges on his Top 10 e-discovery opinions of all time.
- Prolific author and writer Craig Ball on how computer forensics fits into lectronic discovery cases.
JURINNOV is sponsoring ESIbytes™ because Tim Opsitnick, Esq., Senior Partner and General Counsel for JURINNOV, has devoted time educating people about electronic discovery. “The importance of education in this area is paramount,” stated Mr. Opsitnick. “Awareness of the rapidly changing electronic discovery landscape is necessary to stay abreast of the latest tools and protocols being applied to electronically stored information.” Karl Schieneman, Esq., Director of Legal Analytics and Document Review for JURINNOV, created ESIBytes™ to build on his past endeavor of hosting BNA national audio broadcasts on electronic discovery issues and providing the information online. “E-discovery conferences play a role in the industry. However, they typically do not cover the specific in-depth material some professionals are seeking. In addition, due to the travel and conference schedule they can be an expensive and time-consuming forum for training.” Schieneman added, “ESIBytes brings thought leaders directly to the audience via the Internet and eliminates the cost of obtaining this valuable information.” Schieneman adds, “While I intend to record discussions worthy of any national e-discovery program, I also hope we can use the broad reach of the Internet to cover some niche oriented topics.”

The new office space contains the Network Operations Center (“NOC”), a specialized facility housing data on system performance that is monitored in real-time by JURINNOV engineers. The NOC supports several monitoring systems including an advanced transactional monitoring application that systematically monitors JURINNOV systems and facilitates optimal resource allocation. In addition to expanding its client support staff, JURINNOV also implemented a web-based service request management system to streamline support and reduce the response time to client requests. Finally, data storage capacity has been increased with the expansion of additional SAN storage space to meet the demand for data hosting. JURINNOV continues to plan future upgrades as part of an ongoing effort to leverage the latest technology in order to lower costs and increase productivity for document review. Full adoption of Equivio, a tool that reduces data complexity by clustering groups of near duplicates and email threads, is expected in the first quarter of 2009. Furthermore, the integration of other concept analytic tools is anticipated. Such tools have become increasingly important as attorneys seek efficiency and lower cost alternatives to traditional document review. “Brute force document reviews are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Attorneys today are demanding review tools that provide increased flexibility, speed, and reliability,” stated Timothy M. Opsitnick, Senior Partner and General Counsel. “Our solution provides the technology and process necessary to greatly increase the efficiency of attorneys and reduce the cost of document review, which is especially important in today’s economy.”
