Situation
TCDI deployed its Semi-Autonomous Review workflow, powered by altumatimOS, to support an AmLaw 100 client in reviewing 70,000 Spanish language documents. The objective was to apply nine issue codes to a responsive document population without incurring costly translation services and increasing review efficiency.
The outcome exceeded expectations: the workflow delivered exceptional accuracy, precision, and recall. Most impressive was the system’s ability to handle multilingual data at scale while preserving consistency and cost-effectiveness.
Reviewed 70,000 Spanish-language documents in 70 minutes
using a Semi-Autonomous Review process powered by altumatimOS and eliminated the need for translation services
Resolution
This review presented three challenges:
- Foreign Language Complexity: The document set consisted almost entirely of Spanish-language content.
- Complex Issue Coding: Counsel required tagging for nine distinct issues, demanding high-context comprehension and nuanced issue separation.
- Speed and Scalability: A tight deadline meant the process needed to be fast, scalable, and budget-friendly without compromising quality or defensibility.
TCDI’s Semi-Autonomous Review workflow leveraged altumatimOS to overcome these hurdles.
TCDI and Altumatim collaborated closely with counsel to define and confirm criteria for each issue. These criteria were entered into the altumatimOS proprietary prompting engine, and an AR agent reviewed a test set of 100 documents, providing yes/no decisions on each issue and overall responsiveness, which were then validated by reviewers.
Instructions were provided in English, the documents were processed in Spanish, and outputs were delivered back in English, eliminating the need for translation services while maintaining full transparency for counsel and reviewers.
Impact
The Semi-Autonomous Review approach delivered remarkable accuracy and operational efficiency, with precision, recall, and F1 scores surpassing traditional human review benchmarks. Employing TCDI’s validation workflow, which involved Random and Stratified sampling and targeted searching, Counsel was able to achieve overall precision of 82%, recall of 93%, and an overall F1 score of 87.
Additionally, using our Process-Driven AI approach, we were able to ‘review’ 70,000 documents at a rate of 1,000 documents per minute, cut translation costs entirely, and significantly reduce attorney review hours. This resulted in a faster, smarter, and more cost-effective method for handling multilingual review.
By integrating the power of altumatimOS into our workflow, TCDI redefined how complex, multilingual reviews are performed, delivering speed, accuracy, and defensibility through a forward-thinking, Semi-Autonomous Review approach.
