Innovation has become a basic requirement for doing business in legal tech, especially in a world dominated by artificial intelligence. But how can you separate true innovators from those simply following the latest trend?

Find the organizations, and more importantly the people within them, who embrace creativity in a technology-driven industry. The ones who think outside the box while mastering what’s inside it. The ones who don’t merely chase new technology but integrate it into established processes in meaningful ways. Most importantly, find those who listen to their clients and develop solutions that solve real-world challenges.

Innovation is integral at TCDI, so this month, we asked our team what innovation means to them. Here’s what they had to say:

Caragh Landry

Caragh Landry | Chief Legal Process Officer
Strategic Solutions Team

True innovation is about daring to reimagine the way we work to deliver better results to our clients. It’s being creative, imaginative, and open to new ideas and then balancing those with our experience of known tolerances and limitations in legal.

In my role as CLPO, I identify gaps in traditional workflows, look for inefficiencies, and design scalable, tech-driven solutions that improve speed, consistency, and quality—all while ensuring that defensibility remains solid. Whether it’s integrating Generative AI for smarter document coding or developing new workflow models that reduce attorney review time, I am always on the lookout for new strategies that get our clients to where they need to be, in better shape, with heavier wallets and in less time.

Innovation is critical for the Systems Operations team at TCDI that oversees database administration, second-level support, and software deployment automation. As data volumes grow and legal technology evolves, the team must continuously seek new ways to optimize database performance, streamline workflows, and enhance automation to improve efficiency and accuracy.

By embracing emerging technologies, refining processes, and proactively addressing challenges, we ensure that our eDiscovery systems remain scalable, secure, and responsive to the needs of legal teams. Innovation not only drives operational excellence but also empowers our team to anticipate future challenges and implement solutions that keep us ahead in an ever-changing legal and technological landscape.

To me, innovation is coming up with ideas on how to improve processes so our users have a great experience when they need support. In my role, I work on creating documentation so all of the Support team can share knowledge. This helps increase efficiency with all team members. We, as a team, are continuously working on ways to utilize our current systems to make the user experience meaningful and efficient.

Jennifer Andres

Jennifer Andres | VP, Military Spouse Managed Review (MSMR) Program
Document Review Team

To me, being innovative means being creative, and at TCDI, we are pioneers on that front.

Prior to COVID, document review was all onsite. Although COVID helped push others towards providing remote services, TCDI had already launched remote document review with vetted security protocols.

If promoting remote document review ahead of the industry wasn’t innovative enough, we also started our Military Spouse Managed Review (MSMR) program. This initiative creates remote legal career opportunities for U.S. based attorneys and non-attorneys, reducing hurdles military spouses face in having a successful career while supporting their families.

It is with our skilled team, and the novel ideas they bring to the table, that we continue to lead the efforts on innovating document review.
